The Reputational Security Lab

Joanna Landau
Joanna Landau is Chair of the Board of Directors of the Abba Eban Institute for Diplomacy & Foreign Relations at Reichman University, where she founded and oversees the Reputational Security Lab.
A strategic thinker at the intersection of nation branding, digital communications, and foreign policy, she has spent more than 15 years immersed in the practice and strategy of nation reputation management - working across government, civic society, and the private sector to shape how countries communicate their story, and developing the frameworks that underpin this emerging field.
In 2011, Joanna founded Vibe Israel, a Tel Aviv-based NGO that generated over a billion positive mentions about Israel online and was recognized by City Nation Place - the leading global forum for place branding - for its innovative use of social media and data.
In 2023, she co-authored the bestselling book Ethical Tribing: Connecting the Next Generation to Israel in the Digital Era, endorsed by Israeli President Isaac Herzog. In the immediate aftermath of October 7, she advised government offices, international Jewish organizations, Israeli tech companies and war rooms on narrative strategy and counter-messaging.
A Cambridge-educated lawyer and MBA graduate of Reichman University, Joanna serves as Vice Chair of the Porter Foundation and on the International Education Committee of Taglit-Birthright, and holds board and advisory roles across a range of national policy and educational institutions, including as
a Governor of Tel Aviv University.
She is a recipient of the Forum Dvorah Award for Foreign Policy and was named by Forbes Israel as one of the 50 Most Influential Women in Israel.

The Reputational Security Lab (RSL) is a first-of-its-kind applied research and policy initiative dedicated to establishing reputational security as a recognized pillar of national security.
Operating at the intersection of international relations, digital communications, cybersecurity, nation branding, and public policy, the RSL investigates how nations build, protect, and leverage their reputations in an era of algorithmic influence, coordinated disinformation, and accelerating information warfare.
Led by Joanna Landau, Chair of the Board of the Abba Eban Institute for Diplomacy & Foreign Policy, the Lab moves beyond reactive crisis communications to develop proactive frameworks and strategic tools that enable states to treat their global standing as critical infrastructure - to be cultivated, defended, and deployed with the same rigor applied to military or economic security.
As the country that has faced the most sustained and sophisticated reputational attacks in the modern era, Israel is uniquely positioned not only to study this challenge, but to lead the global response to it. We invite researchers, think tanks, and those leading their countries’ reputations to collaborate with us in developing the frameworks, tools, and alliances the world will need to protect open societies in the digital age.
